Dear Boilermaker Runner:We are pleased to inform you The GoodNewsCenteris again offering a “Runner’s Retreat” July 10-11, 2010 for Boilermaker runners.We are located in Utica, New York– only two miles from the starting line! We invite you to come enjoy the serene 60 acres of Upstate New York’s GoodNewsRetreatCenter.Here lies the opportunity to focus on balancing and strengthening your mind, body and spirit in final preparation for the race on Sunday. Saturday night lodging is included, as well as use of the Retreat House, including the Chapel, along with a Continental Breakfast at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. The picturesque grounds, including the Trail of Peace, invite you to relax, commune with nature, and experience spiritual renewal. The Retreat House is void of life’s distractions, such as televisions and telephones, and offers clean rooms with basic essentials, such as bedding, towels, and fan. You may arrive Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.; departure time is 2:00 p.m. Sunday. There are many activities and events scheduled for runners in the Uticaarea during Boilermaker Weekend. To Our Boilermaker Guests: Important information about The Good News Retreat Center:
1.We will be accepting registrations only from individuals.Each individual must register themselves prior to arrival, and is responsible for payment of their own balance upon arrival.(If you plan to come as a group, and would like your rooms close to one another, identify the group when registering.)
2.We do have extra toiletry items, should you forget something.
3.Extra towels will be made available to you, upon your request.
4.The large restaurant-size refrigerator and freezer, in our kitchen, will be available for your use.
5.As is customary at retreat centers, we will ask you to please dress and strip your own bed.
6.Locked rooms are not customary in a retreat house.Our facility’s systems are not equipped for a typical key entry by guests.As retreatants spend their time simply, and in prayer and reflection, there is not a precedent for having to guard or protect valuable items.If you would like to be able to lock your bedroom door, we ask for a $20 deposit for a key.When the key is returned, we will refund your $20 deposit.
7.Smoking is not permitted in the Retreat House.There is a designated smoking area outside, behind the Annex.
8.Sunday check-out time is 2:00 pm.
